What colour is your Imatinib tablet?

Categories:

Hi all ,hope everyone is feeling ok .This maybe a stupid question but what colour is your Imatinib tablet? .Mine have always been brown and quite a large torpedo shape ,I have started a new brand today and they are white and considerable smaller. Here’s hoping they work as well as my previous ones .Regards ,Denise.

Mine have always been orange/brown, but size has varied. For exemplet, Teva and Krka - large. Stada and Koanaa - small.

I wonder why they differ in size when they are supposed to be ”Identical”?

I have thought Teva upsets my stomach a bit more. But maybe that just coincidence.

Hi,these new tablets are by Intrapharm ,they just look like a paracetamol capsule.Probably a cheaper version maybe for our NHS here in the UK .I just hope they work !

I am getting the Wockhardt generic imatinib from Alcura. They look the same colour as the Novartis Glivec, but possibly slightly smaller. The coating on the Wockhardt has an unpleasant taste which I didn't notice on Glivec. Any generic which is being prescribed by the NHS must be approved by MHRA, and therefore has the necessary dose of the active ingredients.

Thank you Alastair ,you are so knowledgeable on all aspects of CML ,great for us newbies to read  .Hope you are keeping well on your lowered dosage . Regards ,Denise.

It may be helpful to read our booklet on generic imatinib, you can download it via the homepage. As Alastair has said, for those in the UK, the MHRA  has to give a license to any brand of generic used by the NHS. The differences between the various brands are to do with the excipient used.... the non-active parts.... but the active ingredient (imatinib mesylate) and dose of each tablet/capsule are the same as the original branded form (Glivec).

Yes good old generics! I am now on the 4th kind and am wondering what hey will send me next month. I take 300mgs so I have to take 3x100tablets at a time. Intrapharm (white) and Wockhardt (brown)both tiny - nasty metallic after taste with Intrapharm and they seemed to make my eyes drier and more inclined to eye bleeds. My latest is Cipla which is a small capsule (brown and white) and so far so good but I have my next blood test end Oct so can see then. Sandoz (white) are made by Novartis and maybe the closest to Gleevic regarding the bindings. (What is inside the tablet is always the same).

Hope all are well,

Best

Chrissie

Oo don’t like the sound of eye bleeds ,don’t want them !!
