Imatinib dose reduction

Categories:

Starting from the end of March, I have been taking 400 mg but also facing some side effects (edema and diarrhea).

My q PCR results were MR3 (July) and MR 5,5 (October) and I was wondering if would be reasonable to reduce the dose of Imatinib to 300 mg considering the side effects and the reponse already achieved.

Please advise whether such reduction would be reasonable or should I keep the 400 mg dose for a longer period.

Thanks

Hi Silas,

Looking at your molecular response I see no harm in discussing this with your doctor- a trial period to see if a dose reduction would reduce side effects without compromising your excellent response. Many people have reduced their dose and found their side effects have diminished. If your doctor is willing to support you - although he/she may feel it is a little early to de-escalate. If your next PCR result shows a stable MR you could be more confident.

Sandy, thanks for your attention. I will discuss it with my doc and wait for the next PCR in order to check if the CMR is similar to the last one. If such happens, then I will reduce the daily dose to 300 mg.
