Troubles with Dasatinib

I've been on 100 dasatinib for 10 months and have just reached 0.124% - that is the good news.

The bad news is that i've had to stop taking Dastinib because 1) I got shortness of breath, 2) CT scan showed water round the heart, 3) blood pressure went sky high, 4) I got chest pain 5) I got water retention around the face and neck.

I am currently off all TKI drugs (have been for a fortnight).  I really, really liked dasatinib but I don't suspect I will be allowed back on it, even at a low dose.  They may give me either Imatinib or Bosutinib as they won't give Nolotinib because of the heart issues.

Has anyone on this site been taken off dasatinib for heart reasons and managed to persuade their doctor to put them back on, even at a lower dose?

I've also got a goitre which can cause shortness of breath but all my doctors (GP, Onc, Accident and Emergency clinic, heart etc) all think it is the TKI.

I'm in my mid 50s and quite fit, so having heart problems was a huge worry for me and my family.

Do you really have a heart condition or is the high blood pressure due to what sounds like a possible pleural effusion (not uncommon with Sprycel) or stress due to side effects. You need a complete cardiovascular workup to determine if you really have a heart condition.  I have had occassional stress pains since going on Tasigna, but my CV workup was excellent so I have stayed on this drug because it has worked so well for my CML

In any event, there is growing evidence that lower dose of Sprycel might actually be more effective against CML while concurrently reducing side effects.  I would have the dose reduction conversation before switching TKI's. Good luck.

I don't have a heart condition nor pleural effusion.  It appears that the toxicity of Dasatinib has caused significant heart problems.  My query is has anyone else had this and what happened regarding meds?  Were they able to go back on dasatinib or were they put on bosutinib?
