TKI Blood Levels for Dosage Adjustment

Categories:

Has anyone had experience with testing for TKI levels in their bloodstream to help optimize dosage? They don’t perform these types of tests in the UAE but we will travel abroad if anyone can provide a reference / feedback on their experience with this. It would also be good to hear your perspectives on the value/benefits/effectiveness of this type of test for TKI Management . I was diagnosed 9 months ago and have been on 100mg dasatinib

I was seeing a doc at a research hospital for a time.  He ordered an imatinib plasma level test because I had lowered my Gleevec dose to 200 mg/day.  If I remember correctly, the result was around 500, which is what would be expected on that dose.

With Sprycel I'm not sure if the information would be very relevant because it seems dasatinib dosing is more patient specific.  The good thing about Sprycel is that the dosage can be tailored easily with all the different tablet doses available.  Dosing seems to be a trial and error kind of thing.  It seems there are a lot of research papers on Sprycel dosing.

Hopefully your doc is open to tailoring the dose for your specific circumstance.

Through my job at the time managing some teams of toxicologists I became aware of work under Prof Bob Flanagan at Kings in London whose team have developed modern methods of measuring plasma levels of TKIs. I asked about how useful this was at the Birmingham conference. You can hear my question and the response about 8 minutes 50 seconds into the recording of the final panel discussion session.

Will do - thanks very much for both of your responses.
