Tasigna vs. SPRYCEL?

Categories:

Dear All,

I am newly diagnosed for CML and was given two opinions to from two different doctors here in Dubai. One said go for Tasigna and the other one is saying go for SPRYCEL.

please advise from your past experience and I highly appreciate any information that will help me decide on which path to take for treatment.

Frankly they are both very similar in terms of results achieved.

Sometimes one drug suits someone better than the other for side effects, but you won't know that until you take it. There are some other considerations such as if you have heart problems nilotinib (Tasigna) might not be a good choice.

But all things being equal, you only have to take dasatinib (Sprycel) once a day rather than two, and there are no fasting periods like with nilotinib. That would get my vote.

David.

Although I am taking Tasigna..I agree with David...Sprycel is much more convenient.

Naj

Hi there,

One in 5 chance of pleural effusions with dasatinib and interacts with other drugs such as aspirin to cause bleeding etc.Professor Jane Apperley at Hammersmith in a blog suggested that if you have ever had a history of lung/pleural disease be careful before you choose it;my specialist said he would give me a CT scan of the lungs before deciding especially as I have a history there. Also said was that nilotinib was hard on the heart and the cardiovascular system so some suggest to have an ECG before and to monitor the QT interval. Finally if you like the occasional alcoholic drink very difficult to schedule in because of the dosing regime. However as both are 2nd generation tki s they are reputed to be stronger than imatinib and might lead to an earlier and deeper response.

Best wishes

John

John - nice summary.

Just reminds me of why I want to get off these toxic man made chemicals that are poison to our bodies - that just so happen - saved our lives.

Our goal - all of us - is to get to treatment free remission. Everything we can do (both at the science research level and among ourselves with education) to get off these drugs is the target.

I will continually test drug free remission and should I fail (failed first time), try , try , again. I will keep researching other natural ways, that perhaps in combination trigger the final immune response against CML.

All TKI's are toxic. Who knows what long term damage they are doing each day we take them.
